Resolutions Redefined
Here we are at the start of the new year!
Some of us are all about the New Year: you’re feeling really motivated and ready to kick things off fresh and proper.
Some of us are thinking, “Um…., I’m not going to give 2022 too much hype, but I do want to change it up for myself.”
This is understandable with all the uncertainties nowadays. However, you need that invigoration back like smelling a fresh pot of coffee. For me, I’m more of a tea drinker (but don’t let me digress).
In either thought-process, the bottom line is this: You’re ready to start something new for yourself! Whatever it is: eating healthier, starting a new project, getting a new job, improving your relationships, now is the time.
2022 is the time to do YOU.
Culturally, we typically set a resolution to establish a new habit. Let me reveal this: Resolutions are notoriously focused on what’s not working in our lives and sometimes link the feelings of guilt and failure along the process. Take a moment and think about that. No one should feel guilty when they are trying to improve themselves. It’s best to redirect to the positive.
Hey, I’ll speak for myself, I’ve set resolutions (no matter how big or small) that didn’t last for more than a week. And often times I’ve felt that I let myself down.
What I’ve decided to do instead is to set clear intentions.
Why?
By setting intentions there’s room for freedom and compassion. Two elements that enable of change.
With an intention I don’t tie myself to a particular outcome, rather I shift towards the thought of personally making an effort to build effective change. It’s a great method to build new habits.
Intentions remove the proverbial self-critical-eye you’d develop if you were to step off-course. Intentions provide the space that you can start over whenever you want. It removes the pressure and/or guilt during the process of building new habits.
So the big question is:
What are your intentions for yourself for this year?
Remember, don’t be afraid to shoot your shot. Pursue anything new and embrace the possibility of reaching your goal with intentions.
Cheers,
Val
